Star Ruler

The 4X (explore, expand, exploit and exterminate) space game genre has been blessed with a large number of great games: the Homeworld and X series to name just a few. These well loved games have been joined by new member: Star Ruler. Developed and published by Blind Mind Studios, Star Ruler does a surprisingly good job of competing with these titles, even though it’s a brand new series.

Serious Sam DoubleD

How to describe Serious Sam: Double D? Irreverent? Gory? Childish? There’s one adverb that could never be attached to SS:DD, and that’s ‘boring.’ One of several indie titles that Croteam has allowed to use the Serious Sam universe, Mommy’s Best Games’ Serious Sam Double D is a 2D side-scroller with a serious attitude problem and a very strong tolerance for gore.

Double D slots into the continuity of the series quite well, however. Sam has defeated Mental and is travelling through time removing any stray minions he left behind when he first passed through on his killing spree. However, when he gets to Ancient Egypt, he finds out that everything is not as it seems; now he must fight his way through time to uncover the truth. Insert cliché here!

Hammerfight Review


Hammerfight is the latest game published by Russian developer Kranx Productions and it is set in a world of frantic aerial melee battles between various tribes, giant sized fauna and rogue flying machines. Making this all viable is a nice physics engine and an intuitive control interface using the mouse to steer your helicopter and beat several different type of stuffing out of your opponents. This is explained in a clear but brief tutorial, but doesn’t go into specifics about using some of the powerups and throwing weapons. It is however very clear about how to ruin someone else’s day and my, there are so many different ways to do that. Read the rest of this entry
